MY family rules canvas

This is a project I've been wanting to do since last summer but never had enough motivation to tackle it.  I found it on this blog .

Step 1:  Decide on your rules
I stole all of mine from other examples.

Step 2:  Type them and choose funky fonts.
I typed them on landscape mode so they would be wider (my canvas was 12" x 24").  I love playing with fonts so this part of the process took me a while.  I downloaded all my fonts here  **After printing my rules I had to go over some of them with black Sharpie because the font didn't show up very well on the patterned paper.

Step 3:  Choose paper.
Another part of the process that probably took me too long.  I stood in the paper section of Hobby Lobby for at least 20 minutes matching colors together.  I bought all 12" x 12" paper because it was cuter and on sale, and then cut it to 8 1/2" x 11" so it would fit in the printer.

Step 4:  Gather supplies.

The picture shows what I used, but here's a list:
Canvas (30% off at Hobby Lobby!)
Paint - I used green, blue, and white
LARGE paintbrush
Mixing pallette
Mod podge
Paper with printed rules
Scissors & ruler OR paper cutter
Spray adhesive
 Black Sharpie
ADDED:  Glitter and glue

Step 5:  Paint canvas.
I mixed the green, blue, and white to create a turquoise background.  I did a pretty sloppy job painting it, but you only see the sides.  I went over them again to make them darker.

Step 6:  Cut rules.
I had to nix a couple rules because after I cut my rules I was over the 24" length of my canvas.  Oh well.

Step 7:  Glue rules on canvas.
I've never used spray adhesive before.  It's super easy!  One bad thing - I went a little nuts on the glue so when it was time to use glitter it stuck to the edges of my canvas.  Annoying, but nothing I could do...

Step 8:  Embellish.
I thought my "Family Rules" paper needed a little lovin' and I wanted it to stand out because it's the title, so I glued some glitter on.  I had an incident with the super glue and I'm still picking off my fingers.

Step 9:  Mod Podge entire project.
Just like spray adhesive, I've never used Mod Podge before so I had no idea what to expect.  A little bummed that it bubbled after applying, but overall it turned out really well.  I used a matte finish, but they also sell it in glossy.  I freaked after first applying because it seemed like it wasn't going to dry clear.  No worries!

Step 10:  Hang and enjoy!
It's smaller than most examples in the inspiration blog, but I like it!

If I can do this project - anyone can! :)

My word verification in order to post this comment is, "likot," and I "likot" (your family rules) a lot! I remember you showing me this when you found it a long time ago.
